Ivy Lodge Retirement Home in Haxby, York is bringing an international flavour into their Care Home throughout the rest of Summer 2020.
The Covid19 restrictions this year have meant the residents of Ivy Lodge are unable to safely go anywhere with friends or relatives, so it was decided to bring holiday destinations into the Home instead. Says Lisa Walbridge, Manager “The first country to be visited was Spain. To prepare for the event the residents have been learning Spanish songs and phrases. They’ve also been busy making flags, fans, castanets and even roses for their hair. On Wednesday everyone took part; dressing up, dancing flamenco and drinking Sangria. To end the day there were Spanish themed quizzes and games followed by tapas prepared by our in-house chef.” Other destinations are to follow and there will be visits around the world, which will see residents ‘globetrotting’ to India, Greece, Italy and China.
Ivy Lodge are putting renewed emphasis on their in-house activities and have recruited two new members onto the Well-being and Activities team. Carol Barnett who is an ex-professional singer and entertainer and Jenny Williams who is an ex nurse, but is a very talented crafter and can make amazing creations from things most of us would throw away. They join Caroline Dickenson who has been Activities Co-ordinator at Ivy Lodge for the last 3 years, ensuring residents are kept entertained 7 days a week!
Lisa explained “As residents have been unable to go out with relatives or as part of our own outings and have been unable to see their families for so long, we felt it was vital that their physical and mental well-being was prioritised and they were encouraged to participate in as many and varied activities as possible. With the new recruits to the activities team we can ensure every day is packed with fun and entertainment. Also, as isolating periods have also increased to 14 days we can ensure that residents having to stay in their own rooms can receive 1 to 1 quality time”.
Ivy Lodge has had no cases of Covid-19 and is open for new residents , anyone interested should call Lisa on 01904 760629.
